![]() The exterior of the Coriolis consists of inverted skyscrapers, where penthouses provide spectacular views of space in addition to comfortable levels of gravity. By the 3300's, although new Coriolis stations continue to be built both within the Core Systems and out in the frontiers of the Colonia Region and Pleiades Nebula, maintaining them has become more costly as parts have become more difficult to procure or manufacture. ![]() When it was first introduced by GalCop, the design had a much smaller diameter of 1 kilometer, but beginning in the 3200's the size was increased. The Flickr album for this project is here.Modern Coriolis stations are cuboctahedrons with a 2-kilometer diameter. Please add your support, leave comments, and check back for updates! Thank you. These starports rotate constantly, creating an artificial gravity for the comfort and safety of the thousands of residents. They are often found orbiting inhabited planets. The Coriolis class of space stations have been around for centuries, and they remain in service across all human-occupied space. It still features the "letter box" - a force field protected entrance - leading into the massive pressurised hangar with 45 landing bays for small and large spacecraft. In the 2014 reboot "Elite: Dangerous", the Coriolis Starport is still based on the classic shape, but covered in inverted skyscrapers, exoskeleton, and defence turrets, and is a massive 2km in diameter. The iconic Coriolis space station from the classic 1984 space game, " Elite", was a cuboctahedron with a rectangular "letter box" slot for spaceships to fly in and out of. It is sturdy, despite the hollow interior, and has a detailed quality on the faces. ![]() ![]() Made from 1700 parts, this model is 17cm diameter and built to 1:12,000 scale (approx). This is the Coriolis Starport from the sci-fi video game Elite: Dangerous. ![]()
